“My husband’s company profits are estimated in the millions of Egyptian pounds, but since separating from me, he has not spent a single pound on our three children, blackmailing me to accept his repeated infidelity.” These words were spoken by a wife before the Family Court in New Cairo after she demanded a divorce for harm and imprisonment of her husband over unpaid expenses amounting to 400,000 Egyptian pounds, following investigations revealing his income in the millions.

The wife stated: “My husband pursued me with insults and defamation to force me to submit to his insane behavior, continued to blackmail and humiliate me, which pushed me to request a divorce. He tried to detain my children, and when I gained custody, he refused to provide financial support to force me to return to him, and he used to give us meager expenses since the marital disputes began between us.”

The wife confirmed in her claim before the Family Court: “I lived in hell because of my husband’s behavior, stubbornness, madness, and threats to me, and his filing a lawsuit to prove my disobedience to revoke my legal rights and cause me moral and material harm, after I left his home and objected to his bad morals, and he refused to support his children.”

It is worth mentioning that the Personal Status Law stipulates that the maintenance of minors is the responsibility of their father until they reach the legal age to support themselves, provided that it is proven that he is capable of paying what is ruled, by all means of evidence including administrative investigations and witness testimony.
