Khalaf Al-Zanati, head of the Teachers’ Syndicate, confirmed that the Egyptian Baccalaureate system represents a historic step in education development. It ends the ‘high school nightmare’ that families have suffered for decades by reducing subjects and allowing multiple exam opportunities, which alleviates psychological pressure on students and gives them a real chance to learn from mistakes and improve. The philosophy of the Baccalaureate focuses on skill development rather than rote memorization, dividing students into specialized tracks (medical, engineering, business, arts) that suit their interests and abilities, opening the way to choose appropriate university faculties aligned with labor market needs. Introducing subjects like programming, accounting, and business administration reflects a genuine response to contemporary demands. The success of this experience is fundamentally linked to the teacher, as the new system radically changes their work method by relying on continuous assessment and regular student follow-up instead of a single final exam.
The syndicate is coordinating with the Ministry of Education on a comprehensive training and qualification plan for teachers to ensure their readiness to handle new curricula and assessment tools. School infrastructure is also a decisive factor, from equipping classrooms and labs with modern technology to providing digital libraries and multipurpose halls, creating a safe and stimulating educational environment. The Ministry has allowed changing job titles for some teachers according to new subjects to protect their rights. The syndicate’s support for the Baccalaureate aligns with a national vision for education development, maintaining communication between teachers and the ministry to ensure educational stability and achieve the ultimate goal of preparing students with the skills and knowledge needed for university life and the local and international labor markets.
