Burkina Faso defeated Ethiopia 3-1 in the match held on Sunday evening at the 4 August Stadium, as part of the final round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be held in the United States in partnership with Canada and Mexico.

The goals came from Pierre Landry Kaboré who scored a hat-trick in the 65th, 82nd, and 96th minutes for Burkina Faso, while Binyam Bini Aiten scored Ethiopia’s goal in the 84th minute.

Burkina Faso secured qualification for the continental playoff in the African qualifiers for the World Cup after their victory over Ethiopia in the final round.

In the other match, Sierra Leone defeated Djibouti 2-1 in a game held on Sunday evening, resulting in both teams being eliminated from the competition.

With these results, Burkina Faso is second in Group A standings in the African qualifiers for the World Cup, with 21 points from 6 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss, scoring 22 goals and conceding 8.

Ethiopia is fourth in Group A with 9 points from 2 wins, 3 draws, and 5 losses, scoring 9 goals and conceding 13.

Egypt leads Group A with 26 points from 8 wins and 2 draws, remaining undefeated, scoring 20 goals and conceding 2.

Sierra Leone is third in Group A with 15 points from 4 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses, scoring 12 goals and conceding 10.

Guinea-Bissau is fourth in Group A with 10 points from 2 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses, scoring 8 goals and conceding 10.
