In a surprising development, former Barcelona talent Ansu Fati has regained his scoring touch since joining Monaco, breaking a 77-year-old record in the French league.
Fati will turn 23 on October 31, during an exciting period in a promising career slowed by injuries.
The forward, loaned from Barcelona to Monaco after renewing his contract until 2028, has suddenly become the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 5 goals in just 3 matches, tied with Argentine Joaquín Paniścieli (Strasbourg).
A product of Barcelona’s academy, who joined the first team under Ernesto Valverde in August 2019 at the age of 16 years and 298 days, Fati set a record in the French league.
Ansu Fati became the fastest player to reach 5 goals in Ligue 1 since 1948, doing so in 126 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by Johan Audel (Valenciennes), who scored 5 goals in 137 minutes.
His goal average is 1.67 goals per match in Ligue 1. He has also scored in the UEFA Champions League.
Born in Guinea-Bissau on October 31, 2002, Fati played his first professional match with Barcelona at age 16 on August 25, 2019.
He represented the Catalan club in 123 matches (29 goals and 8 assists), winning the Spanish league twice (2023 and 2025), the Spanish Cup twice (2021 and 2025), and the Spanish Super Cup twice (2023 and 2025).
Fati had several opportunities last season but failed to capitalize on the trust given by coach Hansi Flick, who advised him to leave during the last winter transfer window in search of playing time.
Last season, Fati suffered from frequent injuries, playing only 11 matches without scoring any goals, which motivated him to relaunch his career with Monaco, who signed French midfielder and 2018 World Cup winner Paul Pogba and English defender Eric Dier this summer.
