Ahmed Khaled, Governor of Alexandria, conducted a field tour today to follow up on the expansion project of Al-Horreya Road (Abu Qir Street), one of the vital traffic arteries serving a wide sector of citizens.

During the tour, the governor inspected ongoing works on the northern side of the road from Ibrahim El-Sherif Street to the Roshdy area, where interlocking pavement and curbs have been completed. The governor emphasized the need to expedite all works according to the specified schedule, with the first phase to be delivered in the last third of September 2025.

The governor also instructed the East District Chief to remove violations, encroachments, and negative appearances in front of vacant lands along the street, taking legal measures against offenders, as well as placing trash bins under the streetlights to maintain public cleanliness, a civilized appearance, and provide a safe environment for citizens.

He stressed the importance of organizing sidewalk ramps as part of the development works to ensure ease of movement for people with disabilities and the elderly, enhancing safety and security standards. He affirmed that the development projects in the governorate consider their specific engineering requirements to achieve inclusivity and accessibility for all.

It is worth mentioning that the Al-Horreya Road (Abu Qir) expansion project extends from the Sidi Gaber area to the Ministry Tram Station, implemented in several phases. It includes adding four new traffic lanes, making a total of eight lanes (four in each direction), contributing to improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in the busiest areas of Sidi Gaber and Smouha in the city.
