Striker Memphis Depay is ready to play for the Netherlands as they host Poland in the World Cup qualifiers on Thursday, giving him the chance to become his country’s all-time top scorer.

Depay, 31, equaled the record held by Robin van Persie with 50 goals in the Netherlands’ last match in June, an 8-0 victory over Malta in the second game of Group 7 in the World Cup qualifiers.

There were some doubts about Depay’s fitness and readiness for Thursday’s match in Rotterdam, as he recently returned to play with Corinthians in Brazil, but Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman said in a press conference on Wednesday that the striker is ready and likely to start.

Depay, who has 102 international caps, scored his first goal for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil against Australia, becoming the youngest player to score for his country in the tournament at age 20.

In their quest to qualify for next year’s World Cup in North America, the Netherlands won their first two qualifying matches and see the game against Poland as crucial to boosting their chances of topping the group and securing direct qualification.
