Israeli newspaper “Israel Hayom” reported that Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has prepared a plan to punish participants in the Steadfastness Flotilla, which is set to depart from Barcelona later to break the blockade on Gaza.

Ben-Gvir is scheduled to present his plan during a discussion with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the newspaper, the plan includes the immediate confiscation of ships participating in breaking the blockade and transferring them to the ownership of the Israeli police.

The plan also involves imprisoning activists under conditions similar to security prisoners inside the Ketziot and Damon prisons for long periods.

The “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” set sail today, Sunday, from the port of Barcelona, carrying humanitarian aid and activists in an attempt to break the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip.

The flotilla includes activists from 50 countries, European parliamentarians, and public figures.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent said the flotilla departed after days of continuous preparations to raise the necessary funds to provide medical and humanitarian supplies, on a journey lasting about two weeks towards the shores of Gaza.

Participants and supporters from various nationalities donated the cost of the participating ships and prepared them for sailing.

During a press conference, participants emphasized that their action is not for show but a solidarity campaign aimed at helping the people of Gaza who are subjected to a genocidal war by Israel.

The spokesperson for the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla,” Saif Abu Kashk, said their move came because of the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in Gaza and its attempt to displace them, stressing that their step is a non-violent mission aimed at opening a corridor for humanitarian aid in Gaza.

He explained that Barcelona was chosen because it has been a reference for solidarity with Palestinians for years.
