Princess Sumaya University for Technology signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jordan Electricity Company Public Shareholding Limited Company to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, smart meters, data science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, contributing to supporting the technological transformation and innovation journey in Jordan’s energy sector.
The university stated in a press release on Wednesday that the agreement comes within its continuous efforts to build effective partnerships with industrial and service sector institutions.
The memorandum was signed by the university president, Dr. Wijdan Abu Al-Hija, and the company’s general manager, Engineer Hassan Abdullah, in the presence of several academics and experts from both sides.
The memorandum aims to strengthen cooperation relations in areas of common interest, notably providing training opportunities for university students in development and technology fields to align educational outputs with market needs, especially the electricity sector. It also seeks to benefit from the university’s distinguished expertise to contribute to developing digital systems and applications in the operations of the Jordan Electricity Company, exploring advanced smart meter use cases to improve energy efficiency and reduce consumption, alongside developing networks and applying artificial intelligence techniques in managing and operating the electrical system.
The memorandum also includes cooperation through exchanging expertise, reports, and scientific research, organizing workshops, conferences, specialized lectures, and research sessions to identify development opportunities and possible use cases for applied research projects, contributing to enhancing human resource efficiency on both sides and supporting the university’s efforts to prepare its students for the labor market through training and practical application in advanced professional environments.
Dr. Abu Al-Hija affirmed that the university, based on its vision to enhance excellence and leadership in education, scientific research, and innovation, is keen to build strategic partnerships with leading national institutions, achieving integration between academic education and practical application, and strengthening the university’s contribution to supporting digital transformation in Jordan, praising this distinguished cooperation with Jordan Electricity.
Engineer Abdullah expressed pride in this partnership, praising the university’s efficiency and the excellence of its students and academic staff.
He confirmed that this partnership will be a model to be followed in cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors, pointing to the importance of attracting university graduates in engineering and technology specialties and sponsoring students’ graduation projects within the company’s laboratories.
The two parties agreed to proceed with implementing the memorandum’s provisions by forming joint working teams concerned with identifying research and applied cooperation opportunities and developing joint projects.
