Egyptian security forces arrested the famous Egyptian TikToker Basant Mohamed in Alexandria on charges of publishing videos that violate public decency and family values. Authorities received multiple complaints and monitored Basant’s content, which included indecent language and provocative gestures in revealing clothing on social media platforms aimed at increasing views and financial gain. During the arrest, authorities found two iPhones, a bottle of whiskey, two wraps containing hashish, and a quantity of opium. Basant, 20 years old and one of Egypt’s prominent TikTok content creators with around 7 million followers and 191 million likes on 250 videos and photos, admitted to possessing drugs for personal use and posting controversial videos to attract followers. The security campaign is part of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to regulate digital content and enforce Egyptian laws against cybercrimes and public morality violations.
