Artificial intelligence is making a deep impact on Bollywood, the thriving Indian film industry, as producers of a famous film used this technology to alter the movie’s ending against the director’s wishes. This “case” erupted a month ago after the release of a Tamil-language version of a popular 2013 Hindi feature film.

Viewers of the film “Raanjhanaa” noticed that its tragic ending, where the hero dies, was replaced by a happy ending in which the main character survives, all due to artificial intelligence. However, this modification sparked criticism from the actor and director.

Actor Dhanush said, “This ending drained the film of its soul,” adding, “The decision was made despite my strong refusal.” He condemned what he considered a “worrying precedent” that threatens, in his words, the “integrity and legacy” of the entire film industry.

Director Anand L. Rai stated, “The future is for AI; a tool to serve our creativity, not to change the past.” He added, “The producer has no right to take part of the film and change it.”

This theory was rejected by the production company Eros, which reminded that Indian copyright law grants the producer the right to make modifications as if they were the author of the cinematic work.
