Dr. Muhannad Al-Khatib, Director of the Unified Admission Unit and spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, revealed that the Higher Education Council decided, based on the recommendation of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, to reduce admission rates in stagnant and saturated majors by 60%. This aims to direct students towards demanded and newly introduced majors in universities and colleges. The unified admission application period ended recently, and the unit is currently verifying data of students with non-Jordanian secondary certificates, whether Arab or foreign, due to the previous unavailability of this data at the ministry. This phase will be followed by procedures for differentiating between students with equal grades, in preparation for announcing the unified admission results during the last week of September.
Al-Khatib noted that discussing students’ poor choice of majors is no longer useful after the application period ends, emphasizing that the ministry conducted intensive awareness campaigns to help students choose majors aligned with their desires, abilities, and grades. Any student not accepted in any of their submitted unified admission options will be classified under “mischoice” and will be allowed to reapply for vacant seats, based on a decision by the Higher Education Council. Al-Khatib affirmed that Jordan has a pioneering experience in the unified admission system, which is based on the principle of fairness by using the general secondary certificate average as the main admission criterion, in addition to allocating extra seats for residents of governorates and royal honors (for children of the army, teachers, tribes, and camps), according to a mechanism that ensures fair distribution of seats across the kingdom.
He stressed that the Unified Admission Unit implements admission policies professionally and accurately, noting that the application processing and result announcement takes 4 to 5 weeks, with staff working long hours to ensure accuracy at all admission stages. He also confirmed that all data and information related to the admission process are transparently published, and competitive admission averages will be posted on the ministry’s website for Jordanian students and holders of Arab or foreign certificates. The unit’s offices will remain open to receive inquiries from students and their families.
