On Sunday evening, at the Ibn Zaidoun Hall in Algiers, the Russian Film Week in Algeria was inaugurated with the screening of the Russian feature drama film “The Challenge”.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Algeria, Alexey Solomatin, several foreign diplomats accredited in Algeria, and an audience of Russian cinema enthusiasts. The film “The Challenge” (2023), directed by Klim Shipenko, tells the story of “a mission assigned to a surgeon sent to the International Space Station to save the life of a cosmonaut.”
This film is considered “the first feature film whose actors, some of whom are cosmonauts, were filmed in space,” starring a cast of artists and cosmonauts including actress and cosmonaut Yulia Peresild as “Yevgenia Belyaeva.”
The week, organized by the Russian Embassy in Algeria in cooperation with the Diwan of Riad El Feth, will also feature screenings of other Russian films, including “In Flight” (2023), “To Adventure” (2025), and “Opera Dogs” (2023), works that reflect the diversity and richness of Russian cinema, according to Dai Saifeddine, the communication officer at the Diwan. The events will continue until October 3.
