The Danish Football Association announced on Tuesday the recall of Christian Eriksen to the national team squad, preparing for the upcoming matches against Belarus and Greece in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for October 9 and 12.

The 33-year-old Eriksen’s return comes after his surprising transfer to German club Wolfsburg outside the transfer window earlier in September, on a free transfer following the end of his contract with English club Manchester United last June.

Eriksen missed the last two national team camps, not participating in the matches against Scotland (0-0) and Greece (0-3), due to his lack of match fitness, as he had not played any official games since leaving Manchester United.

Recently, he has started to regain his fitness gradually, coming on as a substitute in Wolfsburg’s matches against Dortmund and Leipzig in the Bundesliga, despite the team losing both games 0-1.

Eriksen is considered one of the most important names in the history of the Danish national team, holding the record as the most capped player for his country, having played 144 international matches so far, and consistently appearing in major tournaments over the last decade.
