Shortly after releasing iOS 26 Developer Beta 8 for iPhone, Apple has now rolled out the iOS 26 Public Beta 5 update. This update comes alongside iPadOS 26 and similar updates for other Apple devices. Both the public and developer betas share similar changes.

Apple has introduced a new recovery assistant to help restore iPhones that fail to start normally. The update also fixes various bugs.

According to Apple’s release notes, some iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 users experienced a low battery icon issue and inability to boot after updating to iOS 26 Beta 1. Both Public Beta 5 and Developer Beta 8 address this problem.

In Apple Intelligence, iOS 26 Public Beta 5 fixes a crash issue affecting new appearance customization filters in Image Playground and Genmoji, mainly impacting Japanese language users where image creation was blocked when adding filters. Apple confirmed this fix.

Additional fixes include improvements to Apple TV app, Bluetooth, camera, CarPlay, game mode, HealthKit, lock screen, messages, Siri, and weather. Registered Apple developers and beta testers can download iOS 26 Public Beta 5 on compatible iPhones starting from iPhone XS. To install, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Install Now.

Developer Beta 8 is expected to be the last beta before the official iOS 26 release, anticipated alongside the rumored iPhone 17 launch on September 9.
