In a significant step to enhance financial education in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) announced a new academic partnership with Bangor University in the UK to launch an innovative Bachelor’s program in Banking with Financial Technology.

This global program aims to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals who combine solid banking knowledge with advanced technological skills. Amid rapid transformations in the financial services sector, the program provides students with a strong foundation to be at the forefront of innovation and leadership in the evolving global economy.

On this occasion, Dr. Ahmed Al Sheikh, CEO of BIBF, stated: “The launch of this program represents a pivotal step in our strategic efforts to align academic programs with the changing requirements of the financial sector. By integrating financial technology at the core of banking education, we prepare future talents with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead in a fast-changing global economy.”

The Bachelor’s program in Banking and Financial Technology offers a unique blend of academic education and practical application, combining fundamental banking principles with modern technologies such as data science, programming, and machine learning. The program aims to prepare a new generation of financial sector specialists with an innovative mindset and a forward-looking vision.

Dr. Haifa Khalaf, Head of the Academic Studies Center at BIBF, said: “This program provides a unique academic framework that combines traditional banking concepts with modern technologies. It is designed to develop graduates with analytical insight and high technical skills, enabling them to contribute effectively to the development of the financial sector.”

The program strongly emphasizes hands-on learning. Students participate in simulation workshops using real and virtual market data, write code to solve financial challenges, analyze datasets, and apply algorithms—ensuring their readiness to work in a data-driven financial environment.

The program is delivered through a mix of lectures, seminars, practical lessons, supported by continuous assessments, written exams, research projects, and practical exercises such as programming and simulations. This integrated approach aims to enhance academic achievement and increase employment opportunities.

Graduates of this program will be excellently qualified to work in various fields including banking, investment management, financial analysis, and innovation in financial technology (FinTech). They will possess a comprehensive skill set making them outstanding candidates in regional and international job markets.

This academic partnership embodies the institute’s commitment to developing financial education in the Kingdom and supporting Bahrain’s vision towards a diversified knowledge-based economy. It also enhances the institute’s position as a leading regional provider of high-quality education and training.
