Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea has requested the return of her trophy won last week at the Cleveland tennis tournament (250 points), after discovering it was stolen from her hotel room during her participation in the US Open, the last Grand Slam event.
The 35-year-old Cirstea had won the preparatory Cleveland tournament before reaching the second round of the US Open in New York, where she lost to Czech player Karolína Muchová.
Cirstea also competed in doubles alongside Russian Anna Kalinskaya but was eliminated in the first round.
Her disappointment at the Grand Slam was compounded by the disappearance of the Cleveland trophy, her third singles title, from her hotel room in New York.
Ranked 71st in the world, she wrote on Instagram on Saturday: “Whoever stole the Cleveland trophy from room 314 at the Fifty Sonesta hotel… please return it. It has no monetary value, only sentimental. I would be extremely grateful! Thank you.”
