Mohamed El-Shenawy, Al Ahly’s goalkeeper, will continue to defend the team’s goal in the upcoming league match against Pyramids. El-Shenawy missed the starting lineup in the first two rounds of the Egyptian Premier League 2025-2026 due to technical reasons, with coach José Ribeiro opting for the young goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir. He returned to the starting lineup in the match against Ghazl El Mahalla, which ended in a goalless draw. El-Shenawy is determined to secure his place in the Egyptian national team for the September camp, where Egypt will face Ethiopia and Burkina Faso in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The new league season features 21 teams after the relegation was canceled last season, with three teams promoted from the second division to join the 18 top-tier clubs.
Al Ahly faces strong matches in the first 10 rounds, including the fifth-round game against Pyramids at Al Salam Stadium and the ninth-round match against Zamalek.
