Monir Murad was born in 1922 into a distinguished artistic family of Jewish origin. His father, Zaki Mordechai, was a composer, and his sister was the renowned artist Laila Murad. Raised in an artistic household, he studied in Egyptian and French schools and attended the French college but did not complete his studies, choosing instead to pursue a career in the arts. He worked as an assistant director in many films before focusing on composing numerous songs for movies, including famous titles like “Strange Thing,” “Engagement Ring,” “First Time You Love,” and “Laugh, Play, Seriousness and Love.” He later concentrated on composing, where he excelled.
Monir Murad was also known for his famous monologue “Nobody Saw,” in which he imitated Abdel Wahab, Farid Al-Atrash, Abdel Muttalib, and others. His compositions were characterized by a joyful, theatrical, and danceable style. His first song was “One Two Me and You, Oh Beloved of the Eye” in the film “Henna Night,” making him one of the most famous composers of songs and performances during that era.
