The Notting Hill Carnival in London witnessed a shocking scene on Family and Children’s Day, where a fight broke out between two women in the street in front of stunned spectators. A TikTok video showed the women exchanging blows and pulling hair amid the crowded street, while their friends tried to break up the fight as music continued playing in the background.
This fight occurred as police recorded 140 arrests on the carnival’s first day, a 40% increase from last year’s 104 arrests. The arrests included 105 inside the carnival and 35 at the event entrances, with 13 arrests made using new facial recognition technology via live surveillance cameras.
Among the crimes leading to arrests were 15 assaults on police officers, 21 cases of possession of offensive weapons, 25 cases of possession of soft drugs, and 19 cases of possession of drugs with intent to distribute, in addition to robbery and general violations.
At the end of the day, cleaning teams began removing more than 300 tons of accumulated waste, involving over 180 cleaners and 45 waste collection vehicles to ensure the streets return to normal by Tuesday morning.
