Liverpool secured a valuable 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday evening in the second round of the 2025-2026 English Premier League season. This win ended a 10-year winless streak against Newcastle. Liverpool took the lead with Ryan Gravenberch’s powerful ground shot from outside the box in the 35th minute. The match intensified when Anthony Gordon received a direct red card after a violent tackle on Virgil van Dijk following a VAR review, leaving Newcastle with ten men. Early in the second half, Hugo Ekitike scored Liverpool’s second goal. Despite being a man down, Newcastle fought back with goals from Bruno Guimarães and William Osula, who equalized in the 88th minute. In stoppage time, Liverpool’s Nojo Moha scored the winning goal in the 100th minute.
