With heavy hearts, the Free Union of Press Workers in Mauritania received the news of the martyrdom of colleagues Anas Jamal Al-Sharif, Muhammad Quraqa, and their comrades after being targeted by the Israeli occupation army in a new crime against free speech and truthful imagery. We extend our deepest condolences to Al Jazeera Network and the press family in Palestine and worldwide, praying that God accepts the martyrs in the highest ranks. They were a voice that cannot be broken, a lens that cannot be closed, and a living testimony to the brutality and savagery of the occupation. They documented the tragedy and conveyed to the world the reality of what is happening in Gaza, serving as messengers of conscience and martyrs of truth. We mourn this group and remember among them: Shireen Abu Aqla, Ismail Al-Ghoul, Hamza Al-Dahdouh, Samer Abu Daqa, Anas Al-Sharif, Muhammad Quraqa, Ibrahim Zaher, Muhammad Nofal.

The Free Union of Press Workers in Mauritania affirms the following: 1. We strongly condemn the Israeli occupation’s targeting of journalists and its attempts to obscure the truth through killing and intimidation. 2. We denounce the silence of some international bodies, foremost among them “Reporters Without Borders,” regarding these heinous crimes. 3. We affirm that free speech will remain stronger than bullets and that truth cannot be assassinated. 4. We call on Arab and international media institutions to firmly stand against this targeting and support journalists on the ground, especially Al Jazeera crews in Gaza. May God have mercy on the martyrs, make their blood a curse on the killers, and a light that never fades. From the Free Union of Press Workers in Mauritania, Assistant Secretary-General – Madallah Al-Hanshi, Nouakchott – August 11, 2025.
