The Cairo International Experimental Theatre Festival, chaired by Dr. Sameh Mehran, announced the opening of applications to participate in free artistic workshops held within the activities of its 32nd session. This year, the workshops feature greater diversity in topics and extend their activities to several Egyptian governorates, confirming the festival’s keenness to reach a wider audience of creators and theatre enthusiasts across the country.

The workshops include: “Movement Performance” led by trainer Shompi Nimoto (Japan), “Artificial Intelligence in Theatrical Design” with John Huey (USA), “Harmonic Performance” with Arthur Mekarian (USA), “Group Work Dynamics” with Alexandra Kazazo (Poland), “Criticism and Contemporary Theatre” with Savas Patsalides (Greece), and “Mask and Comedy” with Aliso Nardin (Italy).

As part of the festival’s approach to enhancing cultural decentralization, artistic workshops are also organized in the governorates; Ismailia Governorate hosts a workshop titled “Recitation: Science and Art” presented by artist Khaled Abdel Salam, while Alexandria Governorate hosts a “Makeup and Disguise Art” workshop led by artist Islam Abbas. This step aims to spread theatrical culture outside the capital and provide young talents in the regions with direct interaction with local and international expertise.

The 32nd session this year discusses a main intellectual theme titled “Post-Globalization Theatre,” highlighting the impact of global political, economic, and technological transformations on theatrical expression forms, and reviewing modern trends that have emerged amid radical changes in social, cultural, and artistic structures. The festival reflects this direction through performances, intellectual seminars, and specialized practical workshops.

The festival also called on all Egyptian theatrical groups interested in experimental theatre to register quickly, emphasizing the importance of adhering to artistic conditions and standards that ensure presenting quality works representing the Egyptian theatrical experience appropriately at this international forum.

The festival will be held from September 1 to 8 and is considered one of the most prominent theatrical events organized annually by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. Since its launch in 1988, the festival has dedicated itself to supporting experimentation and innovation in theatrical arts, forming an artistic and cultural bridge between Egypt and the world, and has established its position as a prestigious international platform gathering theatrical creators from different continents and offering diverse experiences representing the latest artistic trends on the global stage.
