Scottish talent Ben Doak leaves Anfield after three years at Liverpool. English football club Bournemouth signed Scottish international Ben Doak for $34 million from his compatriot Liverpool, raising Liverpool’s revenue from player sales in the current summer transfer window to about $270 million. The 19-year-old, who joined the English champions from Celtic in 2022 for only $810,000, played 10 matches for the Reds’ first team. Doak caught attention during a loan spell at second-tier Middlesbrough and also played six international matches last season. BBC reported that Bournemouth will pay $27 million plus $6.75 million in add-ons. Doak said, “I feel this is the right time for me, and it’s a great opportunity to play regularly at the highest level. I feel this is the best choice.” He added, “The team plays great football.
It is fast and suits my playing style perfectly, so I felt I couldn’t refuse the chance to play here.” Doak joins a long list of players who left Anfield recently, including Colombian Luis Diaz, Uruguayan Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Irish Caoimhín Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Tyler Morton. These sales allowed Liverpool to spend $405.16 million to strengthen coach Dutchman Arne Slot’s squad by signing German Florian Wirtz, French Hugo Ekitike, Dutch Jeremy Frimpong, Hungarian Milos Kerkez, and Italian Giovanni Leonie. Liverpool may still make additional signings in the next two weeks before the summer transfer window closes, notably Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle and Crystal Palace captain defender Marc Guehi.
