With two weeks remaining until the end of the summer transfer window in the English Premier League, clubs are steadily moving towards setting a new record in spending on new players. According to Football Transfers, Premier League clubs have spent £2.26 billion on player signings since the start of the summer transfer window in early June. This represents a 12.7% increase compared to the £1.97 billion spent in the summer of 2024. The previous record was set in the summer of 2023, with £2.36 billion spent. More deals are expected before the window closes on September 1, and some player futures remain uncertain. Premier League clubs have spent more than all other major European leagues combined.
The three most expensive deals this summer were for players from the German Bundesliga: Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen for £100 million, potentially rising to £116 million with add-ons; Hugo Ekitike joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69 million, potentially rising to £79 million; and Manchester United signed Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig for £66.3 million, rising to £73.7 million with add-ons. Italian clubs were the biggest spenders outside the Premier League, spending £783 million, but still less than the net spending of Premier League clubs.
