The National Library in Aleppo hosted an evening lecture titled “Modern Poetry Between the Space of Creation and the Creativity of Reception,” presented by Dr. Munther Ayashi under the patronage of the Aleppo Directorate of Culture, in cooperation with the Riyad Nadaf Cultural Forum and the Aleppo branch of the Arab Writers Union.

The lecture addressed modern poetry, its pros and cons, how to navigate creative spaces, and how to influence the audience in a literary manner.

Ahmed Al-Absi, Director of Culture in Aleppo, told SANA’s correspondent that the lecture “carried a literary character that transcended the boundaries of literature to reach the horizons of creativity,” emphasizing Dr. Ayashi’s prestigious status as a prominent figure in Syrian criticism, especially in Aleppo, due to his significant contributions to literary criticism.

Al-Absi highlighted Dr. Ayashi’s intellectual dimension, noting his well-known defense of the revolution since its early days, making him one of the most prominent voices supporting creativity and freedom. He said, “This lecture represents an important addition to the Syrian critical journey and plays a role in enriching the local cultural scene in Aleppo.”

Among the attendees, Carol Karkoush expressed appreciation for such events, saying, “These seminars effectively contribute to enhancing community culture and developing the awareness of future generations.” Karkoush added that they encourage young people to adopt constructive critical thinking and to care about books, poetry, and literature as essential paths for cultural advancement.

This lecture comes within the ongoing efforts of the Aleppo Directorate of Culture and partner cultural entities to support intellectual and literary movement in the city, providing platforms for dialogue and discussion on contemporary creative and critical issues, with a focus on the role of modern poetry and its reception mechanisms.
