The Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah has implemented a project to develop a package of vital roads in the industrial and commercial areas of Al Bataeh, totaling approximately 7.4 kilometers. This project is part of the authority’s plan to enhance infrastructure in vital areas and prepare an integrated urban and investment environment that meets current requirements and anticipates future needs.
The new project is located in the Al Bataeh area on both sides of the Al Bataeh – Al Faya road. The commercial area lies on the eastern side of the road, while the industrial area is on the western side, making the project an important axis linking the two areas together and connecting them to the main road. This facilitates entry and exit and provides greater traffic flow for vehicles and trucks.
The Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah, Engineer Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, confirmed that the project mainly aims to enhance internal connectivity between the industrial and commercial areas and achieve greater flexibility in traffic movement, supporting economic development plans in the region by providing a modern road network designed according to the highest approved engineering standards, in line with urban development and the expected expansion of commercial and industrial activities in the coming years.
The Director of the Authority for Roads Affairs, Engineer Suleiman Abdulrahman Al Hajri, explained that the project works included implementing an internal road network in the industrial area with a length of 5,820 meters, one-way, carefully designed to improve traffic flow and facilitate the movement of trucks and heavy vehicles frequenting the area. In the commercial area, works included implementing 720 meters of one-way roads alongside 900 meters of dual carriageways, connected to a central roundabout specially designed to organize traffic and facilitate movement between different axes.
The dual carriageway in the commercial area features a cross-section with two lanes each 7.3 meters wide per direction, in addition to a central island 4.6 meters wide, contributing to the highest safety levels for road users while considering future development needs.
The works also included a package of quality services, such as implementing road shoulders 2.5 meters wide, applying a rainwater drainage system in low-lying areas using isolated gravel drains to ensure water flow and prevent accumulation during the rainy season, enhancing road efficiency and environmental sustainability. Additionally, foundations for lighting and accompanying civil works were provided to ensure road illumination by relevant authorities, raising safety levels for vehicles and pedestrians and reducing nighttime accidents.
