Sharjah Public Libraries continue celebrating their 100th anniversary through a comprehensive cultural program reflecting their knowledge mission and societal role over a century. The program includes a series of quality events covering literature, identity, and cultural sustainability, emphasizing the library’s role as a vibrant knowledge institution that preserves memory and keeps pace with future transformations.

In collaboration with more than 13 governmental and cultural entities in the emirate, Sharjah Libraries launch from August to December a set of creative and knowledge events designed to attract various audience groups and enhance awareness of the library as a dynamic platform for knowledge production and exchange.

Eman Boushleiby, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries, said: “The centenary of Sharjah Libraries represents a pivotal milestone to affirm the vital role libraries play in shaping societal awareness and guiding cultural development paths. Through the integrated program we offer during our celebrations, we renew our commitment to making the library a living space for knowledge production and a central hub for dialogue, creativity, and openness to the future.”

She added: “We realize that libraries are no longer just book repositories and reading spaces but interactive institutions contributing to human development and capacity building. From this perspective, we work to enhance cultural sustainability, expand community participation, and provide programs that inspire, motivate, and consolidate Sharjah’s position as a permanent capital of culture and knowledge.”

In August, Sharjah Libraries’ events start with a discussion session titled “Songs of the Sea and Poetry,” alongside musical performances of sea songs by artist Hamid Al-Zaabi, concluding with a “Writers Under the Light” session hosting writer Karim Ismail.

In September, Sharjah Libraries celebrate poetry from a new perspective through a literary seminar titled “From Ink to Poetry,” where poets present selected poems, including an art workshop led by calligrapher Ali Al-Hammadi.

In October, Sharjah Libraries continue with the theme of “Cultural Sustainability” through a session titled “Between Story and Craft,” highlighting the pivotal role of palm trees in Emirati culture.

In November, Sharjah Libraries present a puppet theater for children and conclude the season with two artistic workshops combining literature and arts: “Through the Eyes of Literature” and “Sound and Color.”
