The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai revealed during its participation at GITEX Global 2025 its innovative project “Artificial Intelligence for Safe Cities,” which represents a qualitative leap in the emirate’s commercial transport system. The Smart Transport Platform (ETMP) is an integrated central system relying on Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence technologies to monitor and manage commercial transport activities, including school buses and delivery bikes, where the platform monitors 13 traffic violations committed by delivery riders to enhance public safety and reduce accident rates.

The project contributes to monitoring and analyzing operational and traffic data from IoT devices related to speed, lane adherence, and driver behavior. AI processes this data to detect unsafe practices and non-compliance cases, taking immediate corrective actions to ensure a safer and more efficient transport environment.

The authority showcased smart AI-supported technologies to be installed on delivery bikes in phases, including high-definition cameras and advanced sensors that enable smart tracking of each delivery operation and monitoring violations that are the main causes of road accidents.

The violations include “not wearing safety equipment and approved attire such as helmets, reflective vests, elbow and knee guards, gloves, and safety shoes; turning without signaling; making U-turns; riding the bike with one hand while using the phone; riding on pedestrian crossings; driving against traffic; carrying more than one passenger on the delivery bike; using the delivery vehicle on fast lanes; parking in unauthorized or unapproved spots; entering prohibited parking areas or riding on sidewalks; using the delivery vehicle for unauthorized activities; using delivery boxes without the required technical specifications or approvals; and lacking the required vehicle insurance.”
