In a distinguished academic and cultural achievement, Professor Dr. Mohammad Wahib from the Hashemite University, Queen Rania Faculty of Tourism and Heritage, received the “Annual Jerusalem Prize” presented by the Jordanian Writers and Authors Union in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. This was in recognition of his scientific, research, and humanitarian value, and his role in documenting the suffering of the holy city under occupation and mapping a scientific roadmap to strengthen its resilience and its Arab and Islamic identity.

The award ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture, in the presence of the Ministry’s Secretary-General, the head of the Jordanian Writers and Authors Union, the Sudanese ambassador, the judging committees, and many prominent Jordanian writers, authors, and intellectuals. It took place on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the National Library headquarters in Amman.

The winning research highlighted the difficult and oppressive conditions facing the holy city, especially the repeated Israeli attacks, destruction of buildings, forced displacement of residents, and attempts to erase its cultural identity.

The researcher relied on a comprehensive scientific methodology, according to the specialized judging committees. The study included the examination of manuscripts, historical references, old maps, meticulous collection and analysis of field data, and a thorough evaluation of archaeological, heritage reports, and field surveys conducted in Jerusalem and its surroundings, using modern archaeological methods and applications.

The research also pointed out the danger of the Zionist project aiming to change the city’s identity and confiscate its religious and cultural landmarks. It called for unifying Arab and Islamic efforts and mobilizing thinkers, intellectuals, and media professionals to defend Jerusalem and its just cause.

Dr. Wahib praised the Jordanian role, leadership, and people, in protecting the city and supporting its inhabitants against occupation policies, affirming that Jordan is the main pillar in Jerusalem’s resilience.

This scientific work is a unique documentary reference linking archaeological studies, field research, historical and political analysis, and provides a comprehensive vision clarifying the dangers, challenges, and possible ways to confront them.

The research concluded with a clear call to support the city’s resilience at various levels, following the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II, and the solidarity of Arab, Islamic, and international popular efforts, proposing practical steps to confront occupation policies. It documents the historic and ongoing Hashemite efforts to protect, develop, and defend Jerusalem and the rights of the Palestinian people through initiatives and positions in regional and international forums.

The research won first place in the “Annual Jerusalem Prize” in recognition of its role and expected contributions to raising global awareness of the justice of the Jerusalem cause and calling for comprehensive humanitarian solidarity to preserve the identity of the holy city as Arab, Islamic, and Christian under Hashemite guardianship.
