Dr. Shubham Fatsia, a gastroenterologist at Fortis Hospital in India, revealed a simple drink found in every home that can dissolve liver fat and significantly improve its functions if consumed correctly and regularly, according to Times Now.
The surprise is that this drink is black coffee, but with one essential condition: it must be without milk or sugar. Dr. Fatsia said, “Black coffee is not just a morning ritual; it is a medicine for the liver. When consumed without additives, it becomes one of the rare natural drinks proven effective in dissolving liver fat and protecting it from long-term damage.”
The doctor recommends drinking three to four cups of black coffee daily for the best results, confirming that this amount is sufficient to activate the body’s natural mechanisms to break down fat and cleanse the liver from accumulations.
Recent studies show that black coffee helps reduce liver fat by stimulating fat oxidation and enhancing a process called lipophagy, a natural mechanism through which the body removes damaged fat cells.
Coffee contains caffeine and chlorogenic acid, two compounds that play a key role in protecting liver cells from inflammation and oxidative stress, which are primary causes of fatty liver disease progression.
When the body begins to metabolize caffeine, it produces a chemical compound called paraxanthine, which slows the growth of scar tissue that can lead to liver fibrosis or even liver cancer.
Dr. Fatsia adds that coffee also contains two important compounds, kahweol and cafestol, which some studies have shown to combat certain types of liver cancer, especially hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common type.
The doctor explains that consuming coffee correctly is key to benefiting from its advantages. The main guidelines to follow are:
- Drink coffee without milk or sugar, as any additions reduce coffee’s positive effect on the liver and may add unwanted fats and calories.
- Studies confirm that consuming 3 to 4 cups daily regularly provides the greatest benefit, while intermittent consumption does not have the same effect.
- Dr. Fatsia notes that both types of coffee are beneficial to the liver, as most beneficial compounds do not depend on caffeine itself.
Fatty liver disease is one of the most common liver diseases in modern times, caused by fat accumulation inside liver cells exceeding 5% of its weight. In mild cases, no clear symptoms appear, but continued accumulation may lead to more severe stages such as fibrosis and liver cancer.
Doctors point out that damage can be reversed in its early stages by lifestyle changes such as exercising, eating healthy food, reducing saturated fats, and regularly drinking black coffee.
