Google is preparing to launch a new feature within its messaging app “Google Messages” called “Insights,” a smart function expected to operate using Gemini, the company’s AI system. This feature was recently discovered in the app’s beta version, indicating its official release is approaching.
The “Insights” feature focuses on links shared in personal and group chats, aiming to facilitate interaction with content without manually opening the links. According to tech reports, a button named “Insights” with the Gemini icon will appear below each link preview in the app interface. This button is expected to provide users with instant summaries and generate key information about web pages shared in the conversation, saving time and making the chat experience smoother and smarter.
According to a report by Android Authority, which analyzed the app’s beta APK teardown, the feature was spotted in the 20251006 Beta version of Google Messages. Initial images show that the new button is not yet functional, displaying a message when clicked: “Gemini service is currently unavailable.”
The report also noted that the button does not appear when the user shares a link themselves and remains hidden unless the “Show web link previews only” option is enabled in the app settings. Although full feature details have not been revealed, it is expected to provide AI-generated smart summaries of the content of received links.
In a related development, Google is enhancing security and smart content experience within Google Messages. The company recently expanded the “Sensitive Content Warning” feature to include videos, which was previously limited to images only. This feature scans sent and received videos to detect any nudity or explicit content, aiming to protect users from inappropriate material.
This feature is being rolled out as part of the October 2025 Google Play services update version 25.39, relying on the SafetyCore system that works similarly to the sensitive content warning feature in Apple’s iOS.
With these updates, Google confirms its commitment to making Google Messages smarter and safer by combining advanced AI capabilities with built-in protection to provide a comprehensive and reliable messaging experience for users worldwide.
