American actress Diane Keaton, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1977 film “Annie Hall,” has died at the age of 79, according to People magazine.
Keaton became famous in the 1970s for her role in “The Godfather” and her participation in a series of films by director Woody Allen.
In addition to the Oscar, Keaton won two Golden Globe Awards – one for her role in “Annie Hall” and another for “Something’s Gotta Give.”
Diane Keaton was born in 1946 in Los Angeles as Diane Hall, the eldest of four children. Her father was a civil engineer, and her mother was a homemaker with artistic tendencies, who inspired Diane to pursue art and acting.
She began her artistic career in school theater, then studied drama after graduating high school, but left college to move to New York in the 1960s seeking acting opportunities.
There, she made her first appearance in the famous Broadway show Hair in 1968, before earning a Tony Award nomination for the play Play It Again, Sam in 1969.
