The channel explained that the new base will coordinate the work of foreign forces participating in security tasks inside Gaza, noting that a senior American general and hundreds of American soldiers will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of Trump’s 20-point plan aimed at completely stopping the war.
The report added that the scope of the US mandate in Gaza has not yet been disclosed to Israel, while the Jerusalem Post had earlier reported that an Israeli-American-Qatari-Egyptian joint task force will be established to locate the remains of detainees who were killed and whose whereabouts are unknown.
A source familiar with the matter told the newspaper that the joint task force will be equipped with heavy machinery used for excavation or demolition to reach the bodies of the dead, explaining that the goal of forming this force is to recover as many remains of the abductees as possible along with the living detainees within no more than 72 hours.
Channel 12 quoted a senior Israeli security source as saying, “The proposed American force clearly surpasses any Qatari-Turkish mechanism, so any breach, delay, or violation of the agreement will face a direct American response,” adding that the next phase will witness the establishment of a special mechanism to discuss disarmament and military demilitarization issues in Gaza.
A senior American official told Reuters that about 200 American soldiers will participate in the joint task force in Gaza, which will also include members from Egypt and Qatar, while noting that American forces will not be deployed directly inside the Gaza Strip.
