The Algerian national team qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time in its history after defeating Somalia 3-0 on Thursday in Oran, during the ninth-to-last round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

At the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, in front of about 40,000 spectators, captain Riyad Mahrez, the star of Al-Ahli Saudi Club, led his team to victory by assisting the first and third goals scored by Mohamed Amoura (6 and 58 minutes) and scoring the second goal himself (19 minutes).

Algeria has previously qualified for the World Cup four times: in 1982, 1986, 2010, and 2014. Their best achievement was reaching the round of 16 at the World Cup held in Brazil before losing 2-1 after extra time to Germany.
