Reuters, citing senior US officials, reported that the United States will deploy 200 soldiers as part of a joint task force to ensure stability in Gaza, without any actual American presence on the ground in the Palestinian territory.
According to a senior US official quoted by Reuters, the special joint task force in Gaza “will include soldiers from Egypt and Qatar.”
The Associated Press also quoted US officials saying that the United States “will send about 200 troops to Israel to help support and monitor the Gaza ceasefire agreement as part of a team including partner countries, NGOs, and private sector entities.”
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details not authorized for disclosure, explained that the US Central Command will establish a “civil-military coordination center” in Israel to facilitate the flow of humanitarian, logistical, and security aid to the lands torn by a two-year war.
AFP also quoted US officials saying that “200 US soldiers will oversee the proper implementation of the Gaza agreement.”
