Hossam Hassan became the first Egyptian to lead his national team to the FIFA World Cup finals both as a player and as a coach in 1990 in Italy and 2026 in North America.
The “Dean” scored Egypt’s only goal in the last match of the 1990 World Cup qualifiers against Algeria at Cairo Stadium on November 17, 1989.
The Egyptian national team delegation arrived at Cairo Airport on Wednesday evening after qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, following a 3-0 victory over Djibouti at the Al-Arabi Al-Zawali Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
Hossam Hassan’s daughter, Yara, posted photos on her Instagram account documenting her father’s arrival after his historic achievement.
She also shared a video of his arrival, warmly welcoming him along with some of her friends and family.
Egypt qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals for the fourth time in its history after 1934, 1990, 2018, and now 2026 in North America.
