The Barcelona women’s team had a stunning start to their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign, thrashing Bayern Munich 7-1 in the opening round at Johan Cruyff Stadium.

Just four minutes in, team captain Alexia Putellas broke the deadlock with a magnificent shot into the top left corner, leaving Bayern’s goalkeeper no chance. It was one of the best goals of the season for Barça and the tournament overall, signaling the start of what could be a historic season for her and the team.

Barcelona continued to press and dominate the match, with Eva Bayer scoring the second goal with a half-volley after a corner from Maria Leon in the 18th minute, followed by a beautiful goal from Asmi Brogts at the 30th minute. Clara Buil from Bayern responded by reducing the deficit after capitalizing on a rare mistake by Leon, but Barcelona did not stop there.

After the break, Bayer restored the lead with her second goal following a magical pass from Putellas and excellent defensive effort from Brogts, before Claudia Pina capped the attacking explosion by scoring two consecutive goals, confirming the team’s motto “No Pina, no party.”

Statistics showed Barcelona’s clear superiority, with 24 shots compared to only 6 for the German champions, despite two goals being disallowed for each team via VAR.

The match attracted 4,409 enthusiastic spectators, as the Catalan team continues its pursuit of excellence in the modified league phase, with eyes set on the 2026 final in Oslo.
