An Egyptian military and strategic expert spoke about the leaked audio attributed to the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser that diminishes Algeria’s role, affirming it is part of an information war aimed at damaging the blood and historical ties between the two countries.
Retired Major General Hamdi Bakhit, a hero of the October 1973 War, said on the “Guest of Al-Dawliya” program on Algeria International Radio that “the fabricated audio recording is part of a systematic ‘Fourth Generation War’ aimed at dismantling peoples and undermining unity among Arab countries.”
He emphasized that the campaign promoting this is managed by “mercenary entities” and “foreign forces, led by global Zionism,” aiming to tarnish the image of historic leaders and undermine the foundations of peoples, exploiting the anniversary of President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s death to spread lies through a “hellish media machine.”
In his personal testimony as an eyewitness from the heart of the battle, Major General Bakhit presented a strong narrative refuting these claims, saying: “I was among the lucky who fought in the ranks of the Third Field Army, alongside us was the Algerian Armored Brigade.”
He added that he saw with his own eyes Algerian tanks and soldiers on the battlefield, stressing that the late President Houari Boumediene personally financed this brigade and even stood at the Odessa port to oversee the shipment of tanks in support of Egypt.
He continued: “I saw Algerian blood mixing with Egyptian blood on the battlefield… When I was injured during the battles, I was evacuated with an Algerian pilot whose plane was also hit, and we were both transferred to Cairo for treatment, then to the convalescence center.”
He pointed out that this campaign is not spontaneous but systematic, targeting to shake the strong relationship between Egypt and Algeria, especially in this delicate circumstance where the two countries’ stances clearly converge on critical issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.
He concluded with a call to the Arab peoples to be vigilant against such schemes, affirming that a historic relationship built on blood and sacrifices cannot be shaken by a football match, an irresponsible broadcaster, or a fabricated leak.
