A 3-year-old Chinese boy has gained widespread fame on social media thanks to his astonishing calligraphy skills. The child, named Langlang, hails from Guangdong Province in southern China. He appeared in viral videos holding an ink brush and writing smoothly on red paper, impressing viewers. Although his grip on the brush resembles holding a milk bottle, it does not affect the quality or precision of his strokes.
The Yangcheng Evening News reported that the boy has received no formal calligraphy training either at home or in specialized educational centers. His mother, whose name was not disclosed, explained that her son does not even know most of the characters he writes. She added that his passion for the art developed after watching family members practice traditional writing. The family did not make any special efforts to teach him; it was simply a natural interest from observing what happens at home. Earlier this year, Langlang expressed his desire to try calligraphy himself, according to the SCMP website.
What amazed followers was the child’s ability to imitate multiple writing styles, from regular text to traditional handwritten calligraphy, demonstrating an exceptional talent at a very young age. Langlang can now write “Langlang” as well as the poetic verses associated with the Chinese Spring Festival, which are usually written on red paper and pasted on doors during celebrations. Commentators noted that the boy not only remembers the shape of the characters but also memorizes the order of strokes with remarkable accuracy.
The boy’s video received widespread praise from internet users in China. One wrote, “He is a true genius; his stroke order is perfect.” Another joked, “Please don’t master calligraphy any further; you’ve hurt our pride as adults.” Others confirmed that their adult handwriting cannot match the beauty of this little boy’s calligraphy. This phenomenon is part of a series of exceptional talents among children in China, where an 11-month-old amazed audiences last July with skateboarding skills, and another 11-year-old boy became famous for creating over 300 different hairstyles for his little sister.
