Zamalek’s football management, headed by sports director John Edward, is considering imposing a financial penalty on Angolan player Chico Banza following an altercation with head coach Yannick Ferreira during the last training session before the match against Al Ahly.
The punishment comes due to the player’s behavior which led to his team being deprived of his services before an important league match.
A source revealed the details behind Chico Banza’s exclusion from the squad in the big match against Al Ahly, confirming that during the last training there was a verbal altercation between Zamalek’s head coach Yannick Ferreira and Chico Banza, which ended with Banza gesturing with his hand to the coach.
The source explained that the altercation stemmed from Chico Banza’s refusal to sit on the bench during the big match, which caused the player sadness and anger.
The source also pointed out that Ferreira excluded the player from the last training scrimmage, relying instead on Addy El-Debagh, Adam Kayid, and Juan Pereira, which led the player to object to the coach’s decision.
Al Ahly achieved an important 2-1 victory over Zamalek in the match held on Monday evening at Cairo Stadium as part of the ninth round of the Premier League. Substitute Hussein El Shahat played a major role in Al Ahly’s win by scoring a goal and causing a penalty from which Trezeguet scored the second goal.
Zamalek took the lead through Hossam Abdel Meguid in the 32nd minute from a penalty kick, while Al Ahly’s goals were scored by Hussein El Shahat in the 71st minute and Trezeguet in the 78th minute from a penalty kick.
With this result, Al Ahly raised its points to 12 and climbed to third place, while Zamalek’s points stopped at 17, remaining in first place in the league.
