Bayern Munich’s football team will not be on holiday when they travel to Cyprus, but will seek to continue their perfect start in the UEFA Champions League and all competitions when they face Cypriot team Pafos tomorrow, Tuesday, in the second round of the group stage.

Bayern won their first eight matches this season, including a 3-1 victory over Chelsea, the FIFA Club World Cup winners, in the opening round.

Manuel Neuer, the team captain, said: “It is important to continue the good start against Pafos after winning the match where we hosted Chelsea.”

Midfielder Leon Goretzka emphasized that the team did not travel there because of the weather.

Bayern Munich is the favorite to win but will not underestimate Pafos, who are participating in the tournament for the first time, having eliminated former champions Red Star Belgrade in the qualifying rounds, and started the group stage with a goalless draw against Greek Olympiacos.

Pafos includes veteran Brazilian defender David Luiz, who was part of Chelsea’s squad when they defeated Bayern in the 2012 final.

Bayern wants to achieve better results than last season when they lost three away matches in the group stage.

Midfielder Joshua Kimmich said, “So we will be alert and focused” at the small Limassol stadium, which holds 10,700 fans, where Pafos plays its home games.

Attack star Harry Kane expressed his happiness that the match is held late at night at 10 PM (1900 GMT) due to high temperatures, and seeks to add to his tally after becoming the fastest player to score 100 goals for one club in the top five European leagues, during the 4-0 win over Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga on Friday.

Winning the ninth match out of nine will also boost the team’s confidence ahead of upcoming Bundesliga matches, starting with a tough encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt next Saturday, followed by a match against second-placed Borussia Dortmund on October 18 after the international break.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sports affairs, welcomed the break period, saying: “We will endure this week strongly. We will travel to Cyprus – then we have an important and complicated away match in Frankfurt.”
