Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf affirmed that the Palestinian cause is facing its most dangerous phase in history, considering that the Israeli occupation today openly pursues the so-called “Greater Israel” plan aimed at erasing Palestine and threatening the entire region.

Attaf said in a speech before the United Nations General Assembly today, as reported by the UN News website: “The international community stands before a historic test that does not tolerate evasion or negligence, and it must bear its responsibilities to end the tragedies faced by the Palestinian people and prevent the expansion of the Israeli expansionist project to the countries of the region.”

Attaf explained that his country encourages ongoing efforts to end the suffering in Gaza under the auspices of the United States, but believes the real solution lies in addressing the roots of the conflict and enabling Palestine to obtain full membership in the United Nations, stressing that establishing the Palestinian state is an inherent right and an indispensable condition for restoring security and stability in the Middle East.

Attaf emphasized that member states are required to restore respect for international law and enable the organization to regain its position as the legitimate framework and guarantor of international justice.

It is worth noting that the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for nearly two years has resulted in the death of more than 65,000 Palestinians and the injury of tens of thousands, in addition to extensive destruction of infrastructure in the strip. The aggression has also caused a major humanitarian tragedy due to policies of starvation and siege, while international calls and efforts continue to end this humanitarian disaster.
