American Coco Gauff, ranked third worldwide, continued her defense of the Beijing Open 1000 points title by securing her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Swiss player Belinda Bencic in a thrilling match that lasted nearly three hours with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 2-6.
Gauff broke her opponent’s serve at the start of the decisive third set, asserting her dominance and extending her head-to-head lead over Bencic to 4 wins against 2 losses.
It is worth noting that three of their matches took place this year, with Gauff winning at the Australian Open, while Bencic prevailed in Abu Dhabi. The latter has also shined this season by reaching the quarterfinals of Indian Wells and the semifinals of Wimbledon.
