Social media users reacted to a video showing French star N’Golo Kanté, 2018 World Cup winner and former Chelsea player, avoiding looking at Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo before the recent Al-Ittihad Jeddah vs Al-Nassr classic match. Comments on the video included: “Only Kanté can walk beside Ronaldo as if the Portuguese star is just another cafeteria worker,” and “Kanté is so absorbed in his humility that he doesn’t even recognize who stands next to him.”

Kanté’s talent is not the only thing that made him famous in football; his humility on and off the pitch made him beloved by Premier League fans during the nine years he spent at Leicester City and Chelsea.

Although Kanté was among the highest-paid players in England, he never changed his Mini Cooper car and never took center stage in celebration photos, even when his teammate lifted him to show his World Cup victory.

Instead of boasting about clothes and cars, he arrived at Chelsea training in simple clothes and transformed into a midfield machine during matches, never stopping to listen to praise. He also refused to put his money in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes in England.

However, Kanté shares with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner the habit of hosting teammates in need of housing. Kanté welcomed former Leicester defender Cédric Kipré to his home after Kipré struggled to find accommodation. Kipré said: “I lived in Kanté’s house for a month; he hosted me and my brother. Not many players do this, and it was a really kind initiative from him. Today, I feel proud to have met someone like N’Golo; no one is humbler than N’Golo.”
