Huawei appears to be taking the popularity of the iPhone Air seriously, as reports indicate it is testing an ultra-thin phone to compete with the new product.
New information sheds light on the impressive innovation the Chinese company is currently working on.
The Mate 80 series is currently the main focus for Huawei fans, but it seems the company has shifted its attention to a highly important product that may compete with the iPhone Air, according to a report published by “huaweicentral” and reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.
The report revealed that Huawei is testing a new ultra-thin phone to surpass the iPhone Air model with a thickness of 5.5 mm available in the market.
This new device will be equipped with a powerful Kirin processor and an eSIM chip, and it may also come with a super high storage option of up to 2 terabytes.
The iPhone Air represents a significant gift for Apple in China. Despite the significant losses suffered by smartphone sales in China, the new model has attracted great attention, leaving major Chinese brands behind.
Perhaps this is why Huawei is seeking to enter the thin phone market through a new innovation.
Moreover, ultra-thin smartphones have become trendy these days.
A good example is Samsung’s S25 Edge, the thinnest phone in the Galaxy series.
It comes with a thickness of 5.8 mm but lacks a telephoto lens, and another downside is its 3900 mAh battery capacity.
Now, the iPhone Air has joined this competition, so to compete with these thin phones, Huawei may launch a device equipped with an eSIM feature, a new chip, and a larger silicon battery, a feature still missing in many smartphone brands.
As for the processor, the device may come equipped with the Kirin 9030 5G processor, and if this is true, this new phone may belong to the Mate 80 series, which will release about five models this year.
Previous rumors indicated that Huawei is working on a special smartphone from the Mate 80 series called Mate 80 Air.
Alongside the Kirin processor, this new phone will primarily support the eSIM chip.
The company plans to make its phone fully support the eSIM chip, eliminating the need for traditional SIM cards.
The company is also working on a special eSIM management feature for all devices, currently under development, which may be launched for the first time by the end of this year.
Huawei’s new ultra-thin phone is currently in the testing phase but may be officially released in the fourth quarter of 2025.
