A responsible source inside Zamalek Club revealed that the board of directors, headed by Hussein Labib, called for an emergency meeting to be held on Tuesday evening to discuss the situation of the first football team following the loss against Al Ahly in the Cairo Derby.
The 2-1 defeat against traditional rival Al Ahly in the ninth round of the Egyptian Premier League sparked a wave of criticism inside the White Castle, prompting the administration to act quickly.
The source explained in press statements that the fate of Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira will be at the top of the meeting’s agenda amid a clear division within the board:
- The majority of members demand the immediate dismissal of the coach, seeing that the team shows no technical improvement under his leadership.
- The minority group calls for giving Ferreira an additional chance, especially given the match schedule pressure.
The source also indicated there is a move to pressure John Edward, the sporting director, to make a decisive decision on the matter.
Besides the coach’s file, Zamalek’s management will discuss the issue of delayed financial dues for the players, which is considered one of the factors affecting the team’s recent stability. The administration seeks urgent financial solutions to avoid any escalation or rebellion within the team ranks.
Zamalek’s management is expected to issue decisive decisions in the coming hours, whether to keep Ferreira or dismiss him, along with a roadmap to address the payment crisis and save the team’s season.
