Zamalek concluded their journey in the 2025 Handball Club World Cup held in Egypt, securing fifth place after defeating UAE’s Sharjah team 29-26.
The first half ended in a 14-14 draw following a strong performance from both teams. Zamalek relied on the experience of their player Ahmed Al-Ahmar, who participated for a few minutes and helped the team maintain a lead for most of the first half.
Zamalek finished second in their group, which was topped by Spain’s Barcelona. Brazil’s Toubaty came third, but goal difference did not qualify Zamalek as the best second-placed team among the three groups.
Sharjah was also runner-up in their group behind Germany’s Magdeburg, surpassing the USA’s California Eagles.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly qualified as the best second-placed team in the tournament to face Barcelona in the semifinals, with the winner set to meet the victor of the match between Germany’s Magdeburg and Hungary’s Veszprém.
