Circulating claim: A video allegedly shows “the eloquence of Syria’s new Minister of Information.”

Fact: The person in the video is not Syria’s Minister of Information Hamza Al-Mustafa, nor does he resemble him. The clip is a staged skit created by a TikTok account and posted on September 2, 2025, as part of satire and humor. FactCheck#

The 25-second footage shows a man in a suit stammering and making mistakes in word formation while delivering a statement on behalf of the Syrian government. The video has recently been widely shared with captions like “the eloquence of Syria’s new Minister of Information,” garnering significant social media interaction and hundreds of comments, some even calling for the minister’s dismissal.

However, the man in the video is not Hamza Al-Mustafa.

He does not resemble him at all. To confirm this, we compared a photo of Minister Al-Mustafa published on his Instagram and Facebook accounts on June 3, 2025 (below right), with a frame from the video (left).

Our research led us to the source of the video, the TikTok account ahmadssgarage@ – Ahmad Hassoun, who created and posted a longer version (2 minutes 21 seconds) on September 2, 2025, titled “Our Strong Syrian Minister of Information, His Eloquence,” as a comedic and satirical performance.

He appears to live in Europe, particularly Germany, as indicated by several of his videos. An-Nahar contacted him for more information about his work and videos… awaiting his response.

Final assessment: It is not true that the circulating video shows “the new Syrian Minister of Information stammering while delivering a statement on behalf of the Syrian government.” In fact, the person in the video is not Hamza Al-Mustafa, nor does he resemble him. The clip is a staged skit created by a TikTok account and posted on September 2, 2025, as part of satire and humor.
