The Al Ahly club witnessed controversy in recent hours after the team’s star Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” deleted an apology post following the team’s 2-0 loss to Pyramids in the Egyptian Premier League.

Zizo had addressed a lengthy message to Al Ahly fans on his Instagram account, expressing his sense of responsibility for the recent poor results, affirming that the team did not perform in a manner befitting the club’s history and the ambitions of its supporters.

The player confirmed that Al Ahly “does not know surrender,” promising a quick return to victories.

However, the post did not last long, as it was quickly deleted following instructions from the club’s management.

Reports revealed that Mohamed Youssef, Al Ahly’s sporting director, considered the player’s action a breach of internal regulations due to the lack of prior coordination with the coaching staff or management.

The incident occurred amid anger among fans after the defeat to Pyramids, which led to the dismissal of Spanish coach José Ribeiro and the appointment of a temporary coaching staff led by Emad El Nahhas.

Sources also indicated that Mohamed El Shenawy, the team’s captain, reproached Zizo for the content of the statement during their time at the Egyptian national team camp.

Zizo, who joined Al Ahly last summer coming from Zamalek, now faces an early test with his new club amid calls from management and fans to quickly overcome the crisis and focus on returning the team to the path of victories.
