Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa bizarrely fled his new team after he was about to finalize his agreement with Spanish club Burgos. He passed the medical exam and was in the office to sign, then asked to step out for a few minutes to get coffee but never came back.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper is seeking a new destination that would allow him to participate in the 2026 World Cup with his national team. Coach Javier Aguirre has asked players to play for top-level clubs to be considered for the national squad.

After his contract with Portuguese club Aves ended, Ochoa became a free agent, and Burgos appeared as an ideal opportunity to continue playing in European leagues.

During a meeting on Monday, his potential joining of the second-division Spanish club was discussed. According to media reports, the talks reached a final agreement. The player passed the medical test and was at the office to sign the contract but requested a specific clause amendment. After that, he went out for coffee and never returned, and since then, he stopped answering the club’s calls.

Ochoa has participated in five previous World Cups: 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.
